The article studies the case of one of the poorest countries in Latin America: Nicaragua. After the dictatorship of the Somoza Dynasty, the Sandinista Revolution in 1979 and the Civil War during the 1980s, it appears that since 1990 the economic, politic and cultural situation has not improved. The country has assumed a fatalist culture that keeps in many Nicaraguans the idea that their future is not in their hands. There are however people and organizations in Nicaragua today that are working to set positive deals among ecomonic organizations, grassroots NGOs and political groups. These deals are leading to change the fatalist culture, develop the conscience of citizenship and foster the dialogute directed to the common good. The author identifies this new vision with the sociological approach of B.S. Santos, who presents the task of building a different globalization as a "work of translation" between ideas and practices of different kinds of organizations in a specific geographical context.
