The aim of the paper is to analyze the effectiveness of Social Security contributions and the Social Security bonus scheme to promote workplace health and safety. That is, to analyse the effectiveness of providing incentives of occupational health and safety prevention through Social Security contributions by implementing a bonus-bonus and bonus-malus scheme. Furthermore, the paper includes a comparative analysis regarding other European regulations that will allow to determine the effectiveness of Social Security scheme and conclude with lege ferenda proposals so as to, through a Social Security bonus scheme, encourage the prevention of occupational hazards and, hence, reduce the number of labour accidents and occupational diseases.
